What is Fiberglass Sleeve?

Fiber Glass Sleeves are kind of tubing made of Fiberglass, which is used on the wiring harness to protect them from Heat and Electricity.

They have both thermal and electrical properties.

There are many types of Fire Glass Sleeves available From -50°C that in Snow, which can go upto 1000°C.

Fiber Glass Sleeves come in many class B Classes, F Class, H class. H Class is something that Sleeve can take upto 180°C, It will not burn at 180°C.

It has a voltage capacity ranging 1000 V to 7000 V. Some sleeves are also made upto 12000 V.

H class Sleeve which is 180°C, are self extinguishable. Sometimes even a F class Sleeves can be Self-extinguishable.

What to look for before buying FiberGlass Sleeves?

There are different classes of fiberglass sleeves and each of the classes have different properties.

The video explains the various parameters to look for before buying any Fiberglass sleeves:

Class of insulation: The Class of Insulation depicts the temperature range that is required for Fire resistant sleeve or Fiberglass cables.

Self-Extinguishable FiberGlass Sleeves: You need to know when burning the fiber glass sleeves or fiberglass wire, do they catch fire or fire vaporizes it. Usually silicone coated fiberglass sleeves are Self- extinguishable.

Application means where you are going to use these fiberglass insulating sleeves. For e.g.: For Motors lower temperature fiberglass sleeve and for Heater high temperature fiberglass sleeve are Ok to use.

Temperature Range : Fiber glass sleeves are made from -50°C upto 1000°C.

Bends and Curves : Check if there are bends and curves or not at the area of application. Silicone Rubber Sleeve does not allow breakage at the bends.

Environment : Look for the environment where the fiber glass sleeves will be applied.

Moisture and water content : To avoid any electrical shock/ short of wires and cables, understand the level of moisture and water content and use a good quality Fiberglass sleeve.

What happens to Fiberglass Sleeves at High Temperature?

To know what happens to the Fiberglass Sleeve, watch till the end. In this video we have put different types of fiberglass silicone sleeve, cable and high temperature fiberglass sleeves through a fire test.

Silicone Resin fiberglass sleeves can withstand temperatures upto 180°C and its voltage capacity is 1.5kV.

Inner Layer silicone rubber outer layer fiberglass sleeves can withstand temperature upto 180°C and its voltage capacity is 7kv.

Outer layer silicone rubber inner layer fiberglass sleeve can withstand temperature upto 180°C. With a voltage capacity of 4000kv, this silicone coated fiberglass fire sleeve comes in 2 different colours – Red and Black.

High Temperature Silica Cables (HTS cables) can withstand temperature from -32°C to 900°C. This sleeve is covered with mica and braided silica yarn.

High Temperature Insulation Sleeve can withstand temperature upto 1050°C. This high temperature sleeve is the perfect sleeve for protecting industrial hydraulic hoses, wires and cables. The extra thick formulation of silicon rubber protects from molten metal, welding splatter and electrical sparks.
